What's inside

The Portrait course — on paper.

Full colour, properly printed, and written in Stephen's own voice. The same teaching as the online Portrait course, re-laid out so it reads like a book — with example photographs on every spread and a QR code at the end of each chapter linking to the related course module.

16 chapters, 5 parts

The full portrait journey — from understanding light and your camera, through working with families, children, couples and pets, to creative techniques and the mistakes worth avoiding.

Example photographs throughout

Every idea is shown with a photograph — portraits, lighting set-ups and before/after examples, printed in full colour so you can actually study them.

QR codes to the course modules

Reading about a topic and want to go deeper? Scan the QR code beside it to open the related module on the Portrait course. (Opening the module needs course membership — the book itself reads on its own.)

Sustainably printed on demand

Each book is printed only when you order — no overstock, no remainder bins, no wasted print runs. Posted from the UK to anywhere in the world.

Better with the online course

Reads on its own. Even better with the course.

The book is complete in print — you can learn from it cover to cover. But it's built to sit alongside the online Portrait Photography course, so the two work hand-in-hand: read away from the screen, then watch the demos and get your assignments assessed online.

The book and the course, together

Read it anywhere. Go deeper when you're ready.

Take the teaching off the screen and onto the sofa, the train, or out on a shoot. When you want to go deeper, the QR codes take you to the related module inside your iPhotography account.

  • Learn away from a screen, at your own pace
  • Study portraits and lighting set-ups printed in full colour
  • Scan a QR code to open the related module on the course

Common questions

The things people usually ask us first.

Who's the book for?

Anyone who wants to take better portraits and likes learning from a real book. It works two ways: add it to your order when you join the Portrait Photography course, or buy it on its own — which is ideal if you already own the course and want a printed reference to keep.

Do I need the online course to use the book?

No — the teaching is complete in print, so you can learn from the book on its own. The QR codes link to the related modules on the Portrait course; opening those needs course membership, but the book reads perfectly well without them.

How do the QR codes work?

Throughout the book you'll find QR codes beside the topics. Scan one with your phone and it opens the related module on the Portrait Photography course. You'll need to be a course member to access it — the codes are a shortcut, not a paywall around the book.

Can I add it when I buy the course?

Yes. When you join the Portrait Photography course there's an option to add the book to your order in one go, so it's posted out alongside your course access. Or order it here on its own at any time.

How long does delivery take?

We print each book on demand once you order, then post it from the UK. UK addresses arrive at the quicker end; international post takes a little longer. Delivery is included in the price — no surprises at checkout.

What language is the book in?

English (British) throughout. iPhotography is UK-based and we write in our own voice.

What if it arrives damaged or I'm not happy with it?

Email [email protected] within 30 days of delivery and we'll deal with it case by case. For a refund, the book needs to be returned to us in good condition.
