What you'll be able to do

From "I leave it on Auto" to a photograph you'd actually print.

Six things this course gets you, taken straight from the modules — not a sales-page wish list. Nineteen short videos across four modules, under two hours, no YouTube overload.

Understand your camera.

No more YouTube overload. The opening Cameras & Buttons module walks you through your mirrorless or DSLR — the buttons, the drive modes and the settings — in plain English, in bite-sized chunks.

Get off Auto, for good.

Take control of exposure, light and focus so you stop missing the moment. Manual Mode without the guesswork.

Sharper photos, every time.

The most common reason photographs disappoint is focus and shake. Learn how shutter speed and focus work together — whether you're photographing the kids, pets on the move, or a quiet street scene.

Photographs that hold the eye.

Composition rules that actually help — rule of thirds, leading lines, symmetry, and how to keep your photos level when your eyes won't.

Shoot beautifully in low light.

Dark, grainy night photos are nobody's friend. The course walks you through ISO and slow-shutter techniques so your photographs come out bright and detailed, even after sunset.

Set your camera up for everyday shooting.

Auto ISO, your light meter, balancing exposures and a simple everyday setup — so your camera is ready the moment something worth photographing happens.

Common questions

The things people usually ask us first.

Is Camera Confident suitable for beginners?

Yes. The course is built specifically for total beginners. We share the tools, tricks and skills you need to get started — nothing more, nothing buried in jargon. Even if you're picking up a camera for the first time, by the end of the course you'll be surprised by how much sharper, clearer and more thoughtful your photographs are.

Will this course teach me the technical aspects of photography?

Yes — the technical stuff you need to know as a beginner, taught so it doesn't overwhelm you. The first few videos cover your camera and its buttons, then you move on to the settings that actually decide how a photograph looks — exposure, shutter speed, ISO and your light meter. If you want to go deeper into lighting, advanced settings, editing and storytelling, the full Photography for Beginners course is the natural next step.

Can I use my existing camera for this online photography course for beginners?

Yes — as long as it's a DSLR or mirrorless camera with manual settings, which is what this course is built around. You'll follow along using your own camera. Our underlying philosophy is core photo principles first, kit second.

I've never used a camera properly before — is this course right for me?

100% yes. The course was created specifically for complete beginners. We'll guide you step-by-step — from camera buttons to settings to composition — without fluff or confusing jargon.

What kind of camera do I need?

Camera Confident is built around DSLR and mirrorless cameras — that's what you'll see on screen — so you'll need one with manual settings (aperture, shutter speed and ISO). It isn't designed for compact or bridge cameras, though a lot of the ideas still carry over. Not sure what you've got? We'll show you exactly how to check.

Will I learn how to use Manual Mode?

Yes. One of the main goals of this course is to help you confidently move beyond Auto. You'll learn what Manual Mode is, when to use it, and how to control your results without guessing.

Will I get support if I get stuck?

Absolutely. You'll have access to tutor guidance and the private iPhotography community, where you can ask questions, get feedback, and connect with other beginners.

Do I get a certificate at the end?

Yes. On completion, you'll receive a CPD-accredited certificate you can print, share, or add to your photography portfolio.
