We’ve always believed that learning photography should feel rewarding at every stage, not just when you nail that perfect shot.
So we’ve powered up a community points, badges and ranks system that recognises the effort you put into improving, engaging and growing as a photographer.
Whether you’re working through a course, posting in the gallery or simply logging in and staying connected with the community, your activity now earns you something in return.
This isn’t about turning iPhotography into a game. It’s about acknowledging the real work that happens behind the scenes — the lessons completed, the photos shared, the feedback given. Let me explain exactly how it all works.
How the iPhotography Points System Works
Points are earned automatically as you use the iPhotography website. There’s no complicated setup and nothing extra you need to do — just get stuck in and your account starts building up a score that reflects your involvement.
The range of actions that earn you points is deliberately broad, because we know that every member uses iPhotography differently. Some of you are methodical learners working through lessons in sequence. Others are passionate about the gallery and love sharing work and leaving thoughtful comments.
Some of you refer friends and family because you’ve genuinely found value here. All of that matters, and all of it now counts.
What Are the iPhotography Badges?
Badges are a visual way of marking the milestones that matter most. Think of them as recognition pins on your profile — each one tells a story about where you’ve been and what you’ve achieved within the community.
Our badges are tied primarily to meaningful engagement to improve your community and learning experience. Members who are active in their courses and iPhotography Members Photo Gallery, for example, will find that consistent participation is rewarded.
The gallery is one of the most vibrant parts of our community, and if you’re regularly uploading your work and engaging with others’ photography, that dedication deserves recognition.
Understanding Your Rank in the iPhotography Community
As your points accumulate, your rank within the iPhotography community grows with them. Ranks are a way of tracking your overall progression — a reflection of how invested you’ve become in your photography journey with us.
We’ve designed the ranking structure to be progressive and meaningful. You start from the beginning, as most of us did when we first picked up a camera, and you move forward through dedication and consistency.
There’s no shortcut, and honestly, that’s the point. Earning your rank through genuine engagement is far more satisfying than being handed a title.
The exact rank names will reveal themselves as you progress through the system — we want that to be part of the discovery. What I can tell you is that reaching new levels will feel earned, because they will be. The higher you climb, the more your presence in the community will be noticed and celebrated by those around you.
The Full iPhotography Ranks: Where Do You Stand?
There are 20 ranks in total within the iPhotography community, starting from Free Member and climbing all the way up to Ultimate Member. Each rank is unlocked by reaching a points threshold, so the more you engage with lessons, the gallery, quizzes and community activity, the faster you’ll move through the levels.
Here’s the full breakdown of every rank and the points needed to reach it:
Rank | Points Required |

The higher ranks — Legendary, Champion, Visionary and beyond — are genuine long-term goals. Reaching Centurion Member at 100,000 points or climbing to Ultimate Member at 1,000,000 points represents a serious and sustained commitment to photography and to this community over a long period of time.
If you ever see those ranks on a member’s profile, you’ll know they’ve been here, they’ve put in the work, and they deserve the recognition.
Your current rank is always visible on your profile, so there’s never any mystery about where you are or what it takes to get to the next level. Just keep showing up.

The Monthly Leaderboard: Where the Top Members Shine
Every month, a leaderboard will publish the top 30 members ranked by points earned during that period.
This isn’t a competition in the traditional sense — it’s a celebration of the members who are most actively learning, sharing and contributing to the community that month.
I’ve always found that a bit of healthy recognition goes a long way. When you see your name climbing that list, it’s a genuine motivator to keep going — to watch one more tutorial, complete one more lesson, or leave a comment on a fellow member’s gallery upload.
It’s also a chance for the wider community to discover who the most engaged members are, and that naturally builds connections between people.
The leaderboard resets each month, which means every member starts fresh. Whether you’re brand new or have been with us since the early days, you’ve got an equal shot at making the top 30.
If you’re not already a member of our photography community, now is a great time to join and get involved from day one.
Why the Members Photo Gallery Is at the Heart of It All
The gallery has always been one of my favourite parts of iPhotography. It’s where photography actually happens — where real images taken by real people get shared, discussed and celebrated. It’s not polished or curated in the way that social media is. It’s honest, and it’s ours.
Alongside our online photography courses, our Member’s Photo Gallery activity has been placed front and centre deliberately. Uploading your work, commenting on others’ images, and being a consistent presence in that space will have a direct impact on your points, your badges and, over time, your rank. That feels right to me, because the gallery is where community actually forms.
If you’ve been hesitant to share your photography — maybe because you don’t think it’s good enough, or you’re still learning — this is your nudge to start. Nobody here is judging your images against a professional standard.
We’re all on the same journey. Head to the Member’s Photo Gallery and upload something today. Even one image is a start – you’ll earn points for that too!
iPhotography PLUS+ Members: Your Dedication Is Recognised
If you’re an iPhotography PLUS+ member, you’ll notice something on your profile that marks you out from the crowd. PLUS+ members receive a dedicated badge that acknowledges their commitment to this community and to their photography development.
Being a PLUS+ member already comes with a whole host of benefits — access to extended content, priority support, exclusive resources and more. But the badge is something a little different.
It’s a visible signal to everyone in the community that you’re invested. It starts conversations, builds credibility within the gallery, and reflects the level of seriousness you bring to your photography.
If you’re currently on a free account and you’ve been considering upgrading, this is probably the right moment. Not just for the badge, but for everything that comes with it. Take a look at what PLUS+ membership includes and see if it’s the right step for where you are in your journey.
Exclusive Premium Badges
We’ve also released a small range of prestige badges relating to our annual iPhotography Member’s Awards.
Previous winners of the Photographer of the Year and Image of the Year categories are bestowed a special badge to appear on their profile.
So if you see either of these badges on a member’s profile, you know they earned it!
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I start earning iPhotography points?
Points are earned automatically through your normal activity on the site — logging in, completing lessons, watching video tutorials, commenting, uploading to the gallery and more. There’s nothing extra to set up; just use iPhotography as you normally would and your points will begin accumulating immediately.
Can I lose my points once I’ve earned them?
Points earned through completing lessons, courses and quizzes are yours to keep. The monthly leaderboard resets each month, but your overall points balance continues to build over time, reflecting your full journey with iPhotography.
What can I do with my iPhotography points?
Points can be redeemed against content in the iPhotography Media Library, giving you access to additional photography resources as a direct reward for your engagement with the community.
Are badges and ranks the same thing?
They’re related but different. Badges are awarded for specific milestones and achievements, such award wins or becoming a PLUS+ Member.
Ranks reflect your overall points total and grow progressively the more you engage with iPhotography over time. More badges and ranks will be added over time.
